What is Paint Correction
Paint correction is a skilled and labour-intensive process to remove any defects and imperfections from your vehicle`s paintwork, including: swirl marks, scratches, buffer trials, oxidation, haze and etching from bird droppings.
Paint correction is the first stage in the process before we complete further treatments and services to your vehicle to protect your paintwork, such as Ceramic Coating or Paint Protection Film (PPF).
We use paint depth gauges (to measure paint thickness and the overall condition of the paintwork), machine polishers combined with the latest compounds, paint polishes and polishing pads. We can revitalise heavily damaged paint to a completely new level of optical clarity without compromising the integrity of your vehicle`s paint. Our multistage processes permanently and safely rejuvenate your vehicle`s paint. We do not use fillers or glaze type products when correcting paint as we believe in offering honest and skilled service, not just a quick fix.
The Carttitude Paint Correction Process
Every car that comes to us is expertly and carefully inspected before we start any work. Our inspection process allows us to assess the condition of the paintwork, so we can advise you on what services your car would most benefit from. Paintwork inspection is a crucial step in the car detailing process, without it we would either not be doing enough to enhance the paintwork or we could simply doing more than necessary – a waste of our time and your money.
We then thoroughly wash the paintwork and decontaminate (if you want to find out if your car`s paintwork is contaminated, just rub your hand over the paintwork and if it`s not as smooth as glass you have the answer). This ensures that there are no contaminants that can get caught up in the pad during the polishing and inflict damage onto the vehicle’s surface. It also allows for smooth polishing, reducing the possibility of sticking or hopping.
Once we get the paint to an extra clean condition, we begin the paint correction process by using a paint depth gauge – a device which helps us figure out how many microns the lacquer layer has and if someone has worked on the panel before. We then protect any plastic ornaments, badges or emblems.
The polishing is usually a multistage process with three different stages of correction. We use different grades of polish, a variety of pad sizes and compounds. Only the best products on the market are used such as: Rupes, Koch-Chemie, Menzerna and Meguiar`s.
Depending on the condition of your vehicle, sometimes we need to deal with deeper scratches and more severe imperfections. In order to avoid removing too much surface paint and cause irreversible damage we use special techniques with the machine polisher and polish products which enable us to round off the edges of a scratch, thus making them far less apparent under direct light.
After each step, we clean the residue and wipe the surface. We then polish the brake lights, apply rim treatment and dress the tyres, ornaments, and wings.

Final Paint Correction Steps
Once the full process for paint correction is complete, we follow the final car detailing steps:
- The exterior of the car is washed carefully again to remove any compound dust and polish residue.
- Each panel of the car is wiped down with Panel Wipe – a specialist cleaner designed to remove all polish residues so that chemically bonded coatings can form the maximum amount of bonds with the vehicle’s paintwork.
- We complete a final inspection of the full vehicle to ensure the highest standards of quality are met.
- After the paint correction is complete, we then go on to either seal up the vehicle’s paintwork with PPF (paint protection film) or Ceramic Coating to protect the car from scratches, road debris and dirt.
- On completion of the paint correction and any further services our team at Carttitude will complete a handover, where we talk you through the work carried out and share the results.
